Negative scanning?

Yes
I have been scanning all my old negatives - 35mm, 100 and 126!
I started using TIFF at around 3200dpi as the output but wondered if it really needs that for decent results?
it is more of an archive process than because of their outstanding quality.

What settings would you suggest? Would jpeg be acceptable?
I know I can play around but just wanted to get a feel as to what others do and pros and cons of either way.

I take the view that storage is cheap these days and I'd rather have a 16-bit TIFF than a JPEG as a master for archival purposes.

If I'm going to take the time to scan a negative, colour correct it, etc., I don't want to be skimping with a JPEG, which I view primarily as an output format.

What scanner do you use? Few scanners can actually resolve that much detail, most have limitations in the optical path with a realistic number more around 2000.

Thank you for the comments which were interesting as they were both the arguments I was having with myself about what to do!
Certainly found with several they have needed a tweak in Lightroom and I think TIFFs are more flexible for that?

The scanner itself is just a fairly basic Epson V200 that has a negative holder for the flatbed.
