I regularly suggest Neofinder (Mac only) as a good low-cost DAM. As well as photographs, it catalogues documents, video, audio etc, and has excellent technical support.
The creator of the linked YouTube videos is Carl Siebert who is an expert on cataloguing and metadata, especially using Photo Mechanic. The "Plus" version of Photo Mechanic, which provided the cataloguing function, is no longer available, and Carl has been investigating Neofinder as a replacement.
He has made three videos, over 2 hours, where he goes into considerable detail about Neofinder, and although targeted at Photo Mechanic users, nearly all is of value to any Neofinder user, or potential Neofinder user. He usually backs up his videos with detailed blog posts, and although one is coming, it isn't there yet.
The link is to the playlist, and the videos are the first on the list
