Netbook for storage

Hi

Off to america this year and taking the camera, I can envisage lots of photos being taken as all the sights will be done, I will be taking approx 30 maybe 40 gb of memory with me but would like to back it up so looking at taking a netbook with me.

Stupid thing is me and the wife both posess laptops and could take one of those but the wife suggested getting a cheap note book for internet access and photo back up.

So 2 questions

1. is it worth buying a netbook??
2. which one is good but cheap with lots of storage for pics, not looking for anything fancy, does not need to be lightning fast as long as it has memory and internet access.

MSI wind with 160gb storage and u135 processor isn't bad, it can be picked up from argos for around £200 (I'm on one now}. No netbooks are very well built though (unless you fork out a lot) so they're not something I would rely on as a main back up...Portable hardrive + card reader maybe; or just take your laptop you have now?
As a general rule stay away from Acer as they're quite tacky.
 
I use a Dell which is okay apart from one thing, The Mouse Pad. Instead of seperate left and right buttons you use the corners of the mouse pad, but the mouse pad is so sensitive that sometimes the cursor shoots across the screen and you end up clicking on somethin g you didn't want to. So my advice is that whatever you buy make sure it has seperate left/right buttons.

The Canon software works fine on notebooks, but is slightly larger than the screen size, it's okay once you get used to it.
 
I bought my partner and my dad a packard bell. Dual core, 2gb ram, 250gb hard drive, LED screen. Elements pre installed, three USB ports, SD card reader. Boots in under a minte, ten hours battery life £240
If you by the Acer version for the same money you don't get elements but you do get dual boot with android, battery life on android increases beyond 12 hours and it boots even quicker.
 
In the end i went with this one, ok not top spec but it does give me loads of storage which I wanted, it has elements 7 on it already (seeing as i wanted it for photos a nice little touch) and it was cheap ish, not alot more than a secondhand one.
