I have a budget of £150 for a new tripod and head - what do you suggest I go for please as I am fairly new to this.

Quite alot of choice in that budget but redsnapper seem to get rave reviews on here and I have resigned myself to one when I can afford it.

You need to consider your height, the weight of your camera/lens combo. As for the head, what type of photography is it to be used for, eg landscape or airshows?

Will be some macro work and also some landscapes.
Have a monopod for airshows.

Yep, I bought that head some time ago but I swapped it for a ball type 488RC2. It's personal choice really, the ball type heads are quicker to adjust but less accurate in positioning. If you are using this for landscapes it will be fine as you will have longer to adjust the position to suit the frame required.

I would think the 804RC2 would suit you fine, the other (landscape) head is the 460MG but I have never used it.

I would shop around and try and buy the head/tripod as a kit as sometimes there is a free bag or carry strap included.
