Anyone planning on getting this? I've got the first version and oddly it's gone soft recently, or I've started noticing it more, but this seems to be getting some nice reviews. I'm tempted to sell my current one and upgrade if reviews are consistently raving about it.

Surprised I haven't seen much about it, other than one thread on Canon rumours.
 
It's been announced for many months. Don't think it's hit the shops yet. If they get Canon 17-40 L colours/sharpness, I'll get one, otherwise the mk1 I have will do me for the times I use it.
 
I have the MK1 and mine is sharp.

I wonder what's different in the new one?
 
There was a lot of variation with copies of the Mk 1. For everyone who was pleased with the sharpness, there was someone else complaining about softness down one side.

I nearly bought one, but went with the Canon 17-40 instead.

Those 5mm at the wide end do make a big difference though, and if you're after a non-fisheye extreme wide-angle lens on FF, this baby is the way to go.

That's exactly the choice I went through. I decided in the end to go with the 12-24, and while the lens has been fine, I think that as I've improved over the years since I got it, I've started noticing the softness more. Also, I've upgraded camera twice from 300D, to 30D and now 60D. It's fine in certain settings, just not overly so in other settings. It doesn't have softness on one side or anything like that, just not quite as sharp as you'd expect a (now) £600 lens to be. I paid £450 for it about 3 weeks before the 10-20 was released, and it's served me well. I think £98 for calibration is a bit steep though :cuckoo:
 
I've only got the 85mm this week and wont be out with it until next Tuesday so all I've taken so far is test shots but I can say that I think it's sharper at f1.4 and has a bit less fringing.
 
Ah, yeah the 50 does have a bit of fringing at 1.4. Only a bit, but I still love it. The 85mm is a lens I'll be looking at when I upgrade to FF eventually.

I can't seem to stop buying things, like guitars and blurays lately, so my savings got eaten :D
 
The 50 and 85mm are both good lenses.

My Siggy 50mm is at least a match and possibly better than my Canon 50mm f2.5 which some say is Canon's sharpest 50mm and one of their sharpest lenses plus of course the Siggy goes to f1.4.

The 50mm is on my 20D and the 85mm is on my 5D.
