New 500mm F4 £2500...Bargain or Con?

A Brand new Canon 500mm F4 Lens has just gone for the sum of £2500 on Ebay

Three bids only and only gone up £100 from the starting bid. The seller shows no feedback but has some sales from a few years ago. I sent a message two days ago and asked if I could collect it if i was the winning bidder. No reply!!!
So, needless to say, I didn't bid!

Have I missed the bargain of the year or have I saved myself £2500??:bang:

I would happily buy that off him if I could collect and pay in person. Anything of large value I would only want to go down and pay in person, and if I am not 100% confident about going to their house on my own I would bring a friend.

The UK ebay does show international auctions aswell converted to pounds if you don't filter them out.

so you don't find it suspicious that a UK seller talks about shipping to 'local 50 states', prices the item in sterling and quotes the shipping in dollars?

Not to mention the demand for payment by bank transfer.....

That's the dodgiest bit about the whole thing - Paying by credit card through PayPal means you've got a chance to claim back either through PayPal or your CC company if you've been scammed - no such back-up security in paying by bank transfer.

He has to accept paypal/some other form of electronic payment. Bank transfers aren't allowed except for the exempted categories which this lens doesn't come under. At least that's how I read it.

Lots of sellers hate paypal as buyers can easily scam you. But in those cases, they invariably ask for payment on collection + inspection of the goods.

The bit of paper taped to the lens is curved in several directions yet the sellers name sits pretty much perfectly straight, put a ruler or bit of card up to the screen.
