New 82mm filters vs Lee system

I'm in the position where I need to upgrade from 77mm filters to 82mm, mainly polariser and ND. But do I go to 82mm or spend a fair bit more money on the Lee system? I'd like some ND grads which don't really work in a circle filter, but the initial cost is a lot more, which is why I'm stuck.

The Lee system will cost me about £400 for everything I need, where as 2 82mm filters will be no more than £150

I found the Hitech 100mm Filters to be good, cheaper than Lee too

Lee are the best, if you intend making good use of them then they make sense, otherwise Hitech are pretty good.

See this will be my career, and I use a polariser pretty much every time I shoot, so not sure if there's any reason to not get the best, and I've heard everything but Lee have colour casts?

Screw in polariser and whichever grad system has the most accurate colour rendition.

By screw in I guess you mean 82mm? Why? Because that means the grads will turn with the polariser making it a nightmare?

I've not tried a cpl in a holder, or screw fit then holder, but I guess screw in by itself is easiest, but adding in grads too...

Matthew, stacking filters is a good way to add flare. It's easy enough to use a pol and a grad if you must anyway, set the pol to the right angle of rotation, hold the little handle on the pol while aligning the grad - Robert's your mother's brother.

If you want grads, then it's got to be slot-ins really, in which case it makes sense to go the same way with a polariser. Mixing slot-in with screw-in is a right PITA.

However, screw-ins are much less cumbersome and higher optical quality than square, or at least the multi-coated ones are. There shouldn't be a colour cast with any polariser.
