Looking for a bit of advice as I need a new "day" bag which will take one body (7D) with or without a grip, with my 17-55 f2.8 & 70-200 f2.8 lenses.

Now, for the other bits.... I prefer a rucksack design but I'm not fussed, but I would like it to have compartments for my iPhone and wallet as I hate bulky pockets.

Also, nothing too big, as I want this to replace my Slingshot 200 which is just a bit to restrictive. Useful if I can attach a tripod, but not a necessity as I have a carry bag for that if required.

I would like quality, and the chance to carry my iPad mini would be great.

How about a lowe pro rover or compurover. I use the compurover and love it. Although I don't have a 70-200 F2.8 I have a 300 F4 which is a similar size. The chap in the review fits the 100-400 in too.

Not the ideal situation for working in the field in terms of access but no backpack is unless you take it off so my view is that opening the zip is not materially harder or slower than some of the quick access back packs.

I am not sure if it is still produced but I managed to pick mine up on ebay for £50 (although I did get a very very good deal), although they usually go for a little more.

I prefer shoulder bags to work from and just a bit bigger than i need,so everything is jammed inside,also i don't mind spending a bit of money on a bag,to me its always worth it.

Have a look at the ThinkTank 20/30 :)

I dont personally like shoulder bags as they either fall off the shoulder or strangle you if there over your head but they win for access unless you have a lowepro slingshot
 
I have a Kata 3N1-33 Sling which i love and will never be without when out for the day, i also have a Lowepro Classified 250 when in town or want less weight.

The bag you need is a : Slingshot 302

In this I can carry my 5dmkii, 70-200F4, 580EX, 50f1.8, kenko converter, hitech filters and holders etc. There is then room in the top for wallet, keys, chocolate bars etc.

It has a single strap BUT most of the weight is taken around your waist with the strap positioned correctly. I never find it heavy and it slings around your shoulder to give you quick access to get the camera out.

My ThinkTank stay on my shoulder quite well,did try the slingshot but found still a bit to slow plus it nearly slung my camera out :D.
 
I have the SlingShot and find it pretty good. Its very usable while still 'on' and comfy when roaming around.

Well I have an old Slingshot 200 which is a bit small, but I do love the bag, so looking at a 302 may be worth a go. Have to find a photo store with one in to try it for size.

I'Ve got a Slingshot 302 and regularly carry a gripped 7D with either 100-400 or 70-200 2.8 attached, the on of those that isn't in the camera plus two small lenses such as a 100 macro and a 24-105. In addition there is lots of room in the top for sandwiches or a flash, and lots of pockets for other bits & pieces.

As has already been said, the weight is taken by the waist strap (which is also great for carrying the camera by hooking the lens's tripod bracket over it), so it isn't heavy or unbalanced.

I had a 300 and liked it so much I replaced it with a 302 when the time came. Great bags.

I have a ThinkTank bag already, a Streetwalker, which I love, but it's just not quite what I want.

I'll go and have a look at the Retrospective...
