New camera advice

I'm sure I'll get some varying opinions, but that's what I'm looking for as I can't make up my mind on a new camera.

I'm currently playing with a 500d and have the following lens:

- Canon 24-105 - use this more than anything, although appreciate it's better suited to a FF camera
- Canon 55-250 - best I have at the minute for any length
- Sigma 10-22 - like this a lot when I can't get everything in the 24-105 frame
- Canon 50 1.8 - everyone has one

I also have a 430ex flash but don't tend to use it very often.

I guess most of my photography is out and about, landscape/scenery kinda stuff. Not much wildlife or sports, but that's not to say I wouldn't like to try this at some point.

Now the dilema. My girlfriend has kindly offered to buy me a new camera for my 40th this year, and I thought I'd made my mind up on a 5d MkII. Now I've started looking, I think the 7D might be a more gradual step up or if I'm going for a 5d, should I be waiting for the Mk3. Budget is probably £2000.

Any helpful advice much appreciated...
 
Will a new camera body get you better photos or ones that your current camera wouldn't get?

Personally I'd go for a body with a 1/8000 sec shutter speed as I like using wider apertures but if you aren't bothered about that then I'd look at your lens line up.
 
I started off with a 550D at xmas 2010 and during august last year I came into some cash. I went out and bought a 7D with the idea of using the 550D as a backup. I was bitten by the FF bug about a month later so, after giving the 550D to the wife, I got a 5D2 with the 24-105 f4 L. I absolutely love this camera and wouldn't want to swap it for anything (ok, maybe a 1Dx). If I'd got the 5D2 before the 7D I would never have got the 7D and used the 550D as backup.
Don't get me wrong, the 7D is a fantastic camera and if it was my only camera I would be over the moon with it, great IQ, fast AF and 8fps, WOW! But, the 5D2 is my go to camera now. With the 24-105 the IQ is sublime, and the DOF you get with the 50 1.8 is totally amazing. The deal I got was from hdewcameras and is now £2,015 with the 24-105 f4 L lens but they do have other options too. Best thing I ever did.
