New camera choice...

My friend is looking to buy a new camera.
She's wanting something a bit bigger with more options/settings to adjust than a compact. But doesn't want a DSLR.

I'm thinking something like the Canon G12?
£350-400 is the very maximum to spend.

Just wanted some more opinions on which camera is best as I'm not very knowledgeable in this area :thumbsdown:

Will be used as a 'holiday/walk around/normal snapshot' camera.

The common answers for high end compacts will be Panny LX5, Canon S95 or G12, as well as mentions for Olympus OX1, a Nikon I can't remember the name of.

Personally, if your friend does not want manual controls I'd go for one of the Panasonic TZ range.

You said more features, but that's a bit to general so it's hard to say.

I have an LX3 which is great for me, but the zoom is very short.

The reason for not wanting a SLR is due to cost, having to change lenses, size/weight.

Some Manual controls would be preferable. Shutter speed, aperture and so on.

Sounds like high end compact then as opposed to Micro four Thirds.
