Hi Everyone

I am looking to upgrade my compact digital camera to a new camera.

I am thinking of getting a compact system camera as i think these are the best size for me, or maybe a small entry level dslr.

I have only 300 british pounds to spend, also looking to capture some good starry sky pics when i go to USA.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks
Steven

budget wise on the used market you will be looking at decent CSC offeringings in M43(Panasonic/Olympus), Sony NEX, Canon M and Nikon 1; you might be pushing it with Fuji X.. and depending on how older model you go you should be able to pick up a standard short zoom and prime lens.

same goes with DLSR, budget should be good for what you are looking for.

best thing is to go and try some out, all systems have pros and cons and it is down to the individual to decide which ones they can live with/without.

have you a tripod? if not it should be on your list for starry night pics but if you are looking at CSC/smaller DSLRs it does not have to be big, heavy and expensive.

Thanks for the advice, been looking at the Sony a5000 because of the price, u had any experience with this camera? Also looked at the Samsung NX300and NX3000 but has no built in flash but comes with a external flash, would this be a problem?

Also heard good things about the Panasonic Lumix GF6 but battery life seems to be a problem?

Thanks

I'd recommend as well that one of the most important issues with a camera is that iy feels "right" when you are using it, and until you have actually handled items on your shortlist, you won't know. try going to, for example Londoon camera Exchange http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/

You will be allowed to handle cameras you are interested in. while you might get a private deal at a better price, there is a six month warranty on used equipment

A local camera club can also be a useful source regarding "what should I buy?"

I know this maybe me being narrow minded because I am a sony user but sony do seem to have the compact market fairly well to themselves the kit is really good at what it does
