New Camera Technology not far away?

unlikely tbh at least short term, the computational optics stuff I've seen has been shining light back through lenses to map them, then you can get more out of the images, its fairly lens specific though so is generally only used for clever stuff
 
Interesting article, but I don't see it affecting my business any time in the foreseeable future.

The trick of creating images from scattered laser light is very very clever, but it has absolutely zero chance of making it to a commercial application because 99.999% of camera users prefer the option of taking colour photos.

All the other computational stuff is interesting too, but it doesn't seem to change the fundamental need for a lens and an image sensor.
