New compact camera help

My boss at work is looking for a new camera to take normal family stuff and also some sports action when he visits things like rugby matches and golf tournaments.

He was looking at the Fuji x20 but i thought this may restrict him at the tele end for sports. He does like the idea of having a viewfinder and would like to keep it compact so no dslr or bridge cameras are on the list. Any one have any recommendations with a budget upto around £500?

A good few people on here including me like the Fuji X20, but as you say it may be limiting if he is needing a good zoom. I reckon you should get your Boss signed up to the forum, then he can ask members about camera buying advice, and join in the general chit chat :)
 
I use a Canon G16 as my pocket camera for when I don't wanna carry the DSLR around, very well specified compact camera with a viewfinder and RAW as well as JPEG images, Although no flip out or touch screen but I does take brilliant photos.
 
Thanks for your replies, As you say x20 does look good just the range that's the issue, will check out the G16.

Don't think he's the type to join a forum!
 
Viewfinder AND compact? And a long zoom? Not really going to happen, the Fuji X10 / X20 seem as near as he might get,
but if he's willing to get a superzoom/bridge maybe he should forgoe the "compact" requirement.

I think he's gong to try the x20 for focal length, like you say I think he will have to give on one of the requirements. Thanks for the reply.

Looks a good prospect, I won't see him now until Monday so if he holds off buying i will recommend this as a possibility, thanks for taking time to reply.
 
He's bought the fuji x20, it has some good reviews and he's just had to compromise on the focal length a bit. Thanks for all you replies.
