:suspect:

Just collected my stupid-cheap Nikon D3 from TechFurb (Dixon's group) which was delivered to my Dad's.

As expected, it's brand-new, unused and...

Oh wait - sub-command dial (front, adjacent to shutter-release) non-operational - it's been 'pushed' flush with the recess it sits in and appears lightly skewed upwards...
TBH it looks more as though it was assembled incorrectly at the outset, rather than accident/impact damage in a shop or in transit (no damage to box etc...)...there's no evidence of any use whatsoever...

It has a 2 year-Euro guarantee (box has Nikon UK stickers on top and the Guarantee card list Nikon UK as the dealer), so I've contacted the seller as to their views and telling them my intention is to throw it at Nikon.de when I get home and get them to tear it down and re-assemble correctly under the guarantee.
TechFurb have sold out of these now and I'll be unlikely to get a 'mint' D3 for £1137 anywhere else...
I'm not having much luck with 'mint' Nikons this month...:'(

Cheap as chips at that price. Anyway, you've got another sub-command dial on the vertical grip - should be fine :D.

Yeah - it'll do til I get it back to the Nikon dealer Dortmund I use...

Still...I was SO looking forward to having a play this evening with the
new (thankfully in perfect working-order) 24-70 f/2.8 and SB900 I also purchased at the same time...

Don't you have two D3's already? Not that anyone ever could have enough of the top Nikon series. :D

Oh and good luck with getting a replacement! :)

I bet you can still get more than £1137 for it though :D

Jealous !

You're just trying to wind everyone up now, send it to me I'll fix it , if I damage it i'll refund your £1137 :p

I'm not going to repace it - other than the command-dial it is mint/unused...the guarantee card is good, the product is genuine 'distributed by Nikon UK' so I'm going to drop it off in Kingston tomorrow - my plan to take it to Germany won't wash as the UK guarantee card is valid here and not Germany (well it may be, but I can't be bothered to try and explain all the tech-stuff to the guy in the shop who I know speaks almost no English - my tech-Deutsche is getting better, but since I'm over here now...)

As to the 'other' kit I own, most of it's not mine: I'm leaving the Army in December and having to replace my issued equipment with stuff I've actually paid for out of my own pocket for the first time in nearly 12 years...

My 'Press & PR' kit now consists of: 2 D3 bodies (one used, one new but damaged...lol), a new Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8, a used but good Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR-I, my old battered 17-35 f/2.8, 2x SB900's and SB800 and an SB80DX.

I still need to acquire some remote triggers to replace the issued Pocket-Wizards and the SU800 Commander Unit.

Good and speedy news:

TechFurb have now offered me two options:
A partial refund and I keep the item, or full refund and they collect the item from me.

I've opted for the partial refund as I'm convinced it's just an assembly error.
Taking it in to Nikon UK this afternoon for a quick asessment.
If they can do it relatively quickly, I'll leave it there, if not (and the Guarantee extends to Germany under my NPU account) I'll take it back to Tchermany and get the repair carried out there...

This is how a company should resolve problems. I contacted them about this after office hours last night...

Heads-up WEX, are you listening?

A D3 for £1137 and cash back,I suspect if WEX are reading this they'll tell you to **** right off :D

So a D3 for a fiver now eh?:)

Just processed the refund - £175...woot...

Dropped the camera off this afternoon at Nikon UK in Kingston to be repaired under warranty... Happy days...

So effectively, a new D3 for less than a grand. I now officially hate you. ;)

I hate myself for being out at the time these deals got posted. Just so I can beat myself up some more, how much was the 24-70?
Sooo jealous!

24-70 was £1050 new with a Euro-Guarantee card which is (I checked with Nikon this afternoon) valid in UK and Germany...woot.

oops...that should have read £75 refunded - still more than expected though...

You have really fallen on your feet in the end with this D3! Mind you quite a few of us did well out of techfurb, although not to your extent.

...and after all the hand-wringing as to whether they were legit or not...lol

To say I'm 'quite pleased' at the service I've had from them would be understating matters somewhat...
