Hey everyone, sorry but it's yet another 'my first website' thread!

I just wanted to get you thoughts and opinions on what you think of a web design i've just been messing around with for the last hour.

It's actually for a brief set by my Uni, 'Self Negotiated Brief' where we need to set ourself a brief, I chose to design a website for photography, as that is also something I would like to get into.

I'm going for a sort of classy, sophisticated, elegant feel to the website. My photos dont necessarily represent that sort of style yet, but that is what i'm eventually going for.

I will be having a Home, About/Bio, and Portfolio links. I am also considering linking to my Flickr as that'll have a wider range of shots, this website is mainly to use as a portfolio.

Here are two images, which show the theme of the site and a potential gallery look.

The typeface isn't final, neither are the << >>, just temporary until I can conjure up something decent. Ignore the watermark on the actual image as that is going to change too.

Let me know what you HONESTLY think! Whether you like some aspects, or whether you would prefer to :bonk: hit me on the head with a mallet!

To me personally, I don't like the old fashion feel of the site, also the Ferrari picture, where you have blanked out the number plate with the white stripe it look amateurish, it would look a lot better if you just cloned out the number plate, it not a very good advert for the front page of your web site.

I have to agree with you on the disliking the old fashion feel, I showed it to quite a few other people and the feedback I got was nothing but negative. I mean, the theme is 'ok,' but just not for this, and it draws attention away from the images as well.

I have actually just cloned out the licence plate on the Ferrari, it was quite brightly exposed so theres nothing I can do about that - that's just more or less how the white looked on it. I may need to reconsider the image for the front of the website, what you pointed out with the licence plate does make sense, but it's one of my strongest images at the moment.

Anyway, since i've gone off that style, heres a much more contemporary design.

When you click on an image, a window containing the image will pop up, or I will have this:

The central area will have a scroll bar (as pictured) and the user can slide through all the portfolio. I think for the enlarged thumbnail I might remove the contact details as it looks a little out of place at the moment..

What do you think?
