New hard drive missing?

Guys, this one has got me stumped.....

Just bought a new SATA hard drive, installed it, BIOS can see it, and so can Windows device manager.
But there's no sign of it in my computer :shrug:

I'm sure there's something really simple I'm not doing, but I just cannot think what??!!

HEEEEELP!!!
 
Does it need formatting?

It does yes, but I thought I could do that from within Windows......
 
as Euan says, you will need to go into Drive Manager and format it before it will be recognised
 
Right click 'My Computer' (either on the desktop or in the start menu) and select Manage.
In the Computer Management window that should open, go to Storage->Disk Management.
If your drive isn't there, then it's just odd.
If it is there, create your partitions and format them. I can recommend using larger block sizes (8k+) for better performance, especially if it's photos and larger files in general that will be stored there.
