Yes
Im just about to take the plunge and brand change from Pentax to Canon.

Im looking at the
Canon EOS 5D Mark II Main Cam
Canon EOS 50D Back up body

3 primes and 1 telephoto.

Any reason why I shouldnt or should I be considering the D7 or Nikon.

I did love the Nikon I used last month, but had a quick play with the 5d MarkII and liked it alot.

Depends what you are doing? ....wedding i think i remember from another thread? in that case the 5Dmk2 for better iso, wider veiw and full frame colours etc.

any views on lens ef/efs issue as i just cant really stretch to two EOS 5 D and I really want a spare body, hence the 50d.
Yes I shoot a lot of weddings and events, also some horse stuff.

Im unsure if i should just get to NIKON bodies the same, as this will cost just a little more than canon 5d and 50d ??? An y views

EF-S lenses will only work on the 50D
EF lenses will work on both bodies.

What about a 5D MkI as a backup (£700), or do you want the crop factor of the 50D?

There are some good EF-S lenses 17-55mm f2.8 to mention 1, but do you really want to have 2 lens types? Personally I would stick with EF lenses.

As for lenses, 70-200mm f2.8 IS is very useful, 24-70mm F2.8 another good lens, or 17-40mm f4 or 24-105mm f4 on the FF. Primes would be 85mm f1.2, 24mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4, 135mm f2 for some suggestions, although I'll leave the recommendations to the wedding togs and stick to sports :D

I wouldnt want to mix the lens types so would really be looking at the EF lens only.

5D Mk.I might be worth a look as a backup?

70-200 and 24-70 2.8s should cover it? What about lighting?

The 5D is definitely a worthy back up camera :)

no ideas for lenses though, depends on your shooting style

for horse stuff i guess you mean eventing, here the 50d will make an excellent body as the crop factor from the smaller sensor makes your lenses appear longer and the autofocus is better suited to fast moving things than that of the 5d, the 7d would be similar to the 50d but superior but more expensive.

What lenses are you looking at, and ideal set would be 16-35L 24-70L 70-200L and primes to cover the range (e.g. 30 50 80 135 ect) but that is a lot of money
