Hello,

Im looking at getting a new laptop next week,

Currently looking at something like;

HP Pavilion g6-1001sa 15.6" Laptop - Charcoal Grey buy online | Currys

Im basically going to use it for internet use and video
Also will be looking at doing some sort of photo editing - I have an external hard drive to store my images on

Anyone know of decent websites to get laptops from? - Basically want to spend upto £300, maybe a bit more if its worth it - or do people think a desktop is the way forward for me?

Unless you need or want the portability of a laptop and/or do not have much spare space, I'd get a desktop.

You get more for your money with a desktop. Upgrading is easy with a desktop. On a laptop you can change the RAM and hard drive, but that is about it.

This is a personal view but I find if I use a laptop I almost always plug in and external keyboard and mouse. I also find a laptop screen less easy to use.

Do you want to limit yourself to working in one place?

For the same money a desktop is more powerful, but you can't use it in bed. On the sofa, in the garden or elsewhere.

I have got a "desktop" on the floor next to my sofa and a 21.5" screen (+ keyboard & mouse) on the table in front of my sofa.

I guess a desktop could even be used in bed if you had one of those "overbed tables" like you see in hospitals to put the screen on.
