Hi All,

As the title suggests I’m on the lookout for a new Laptop.

I haven’t had a new one for a while and want this to be predominantly for photo editing, my question I suppose is the usual. How much Ram? Is 16gb enough now a days or should I have to go for 32gb? Should I be looking for 1 or 2TB SSD? Should I then get an external 6TB for back up purposes. I shoot in Raw mainly but do shoot jpg also. I have the Sonys a9 and a7iii so 24 and 33mp.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated as there are a minefield of choices out there.

I am a hobbyist not a professional photographer, budget is 2.5k.

Cheers

I posted similar the other day, some of the comments may interest you

I only looked at two processors, the i5 13600K and the i7 13700H

Both give good performance for the money, and the performance if very close for photo editing

I chose 32GB memory, and two internal drives, as 2TB and a 4TB.
Still have external storage

You can see the price in the other thread

It looks fine, however that i9 is not fast, it is slightly slower than the i7 I mentioned (for most photo processing)

The screen is better if you are looking for that. The video card has more memory. The NVMe is faster, which will make a slight difference.

Certainly a good spec, but for me it is £1000 more for very little gain.

However, I was looking at cost as a major factor in my choice.

My measure for performance is a 5 frame HDR merge, which I am happy to get it down to 30 seconds :)
For anything else, if it does that it will be fast enough.

Everybody's targets are different.

To me it looks like it will do what you want.
