Hey all i would like some advice i bought the Nikon d3100 18-55 lens kit but it doesn't provide me with the close ups i want. I want a lens that i can get close up pictures of flowers but also provide me with a range to take scenery shots. Are there lenses that do both? Or would it be better to get two and if so any recommendations? Thanks a lot!

Put up your budget Marc. It will give people a better idea of what to recommend in your price range

The tamron 90mm macro is widely regarded as the best budget macro. Or if you want the best macro on the market get the nikon 105mm micro.

Yes make sure you get the up to date one with the af motor.

Marc,

The 18-55mm focuses very close (1:3) and I think for what you need it for, extension tubes is a very good avenue to go down as the optical quality with the 18-55 is very good.

Look into is, you may find that spending £40 on ebay for some auto tubes ways up more positives than £350+ on a macro lens...

Phil and his magic kit lens again!;)

Not a bad idea though if you're only shooting the occasional macro and on a budget.

The 18-55 is a severely under rated lens! I love mine and have never seemed to shift it.

There have been times when I've thought I could benefit from the tamron but for low light I just wack my 50mm on.

All of my macro work is done using it and I can't knock the IQ...and that's coming from a previous 105mm VR owner!

Anyway each to their own but it does get a bad rep based on its "kit" lens name, bit due to IQ :-)

Extension tubes mmmm not heard of those i am going to have to look into these because i like the sound of the price!! :-)
