New Lens for Budapest Trip (Sony Emount)

Afternoon all.

Off to Budapest in mid-October and I’m expecting to have my camera out most of the day every day!
It is a Sony NEX 5t, my current lenses are Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens and the Sony 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Zoom.

Will mostly be shooting people in the street, architecture and general scenery.

Question 1) Is a prime wide angle the next sensible purchase?
Question 2) I have looked at the Sony FE 28mm F2 lens – any thoughts?
Question 3) Is there anything else I am over looking?
Question 4) Would i be better off (£$) if I buy a more common wide angle lens + adapter.

Will happily buy 2nd hand (good quality).

Hi, I have (as my 'small and light' camera option) an A6000 with the same 16-50 and 55-210 pairing, and recently added the 50 f/1.8 as a cheap 'fast prime' option.

Not sure how well the 5t handles higher ISO, but on my A6000 I leave it at Auto 100-1600, so find I don't need the wider apertures in general - the 50 is for inside buildings, twighlight, etc when the light really drops, or for when I particularity want shallow DOF.

I guess the question really with the prime is how often will you stop and change to it from the 16-50?
Have a look through the shots you take and see what focal lengths you use most - if you shoot a lot and around 28 then the prime is a good bet, but if you switch about a lot (or worse, tend to shoot at then ends of the range rather than middle) then it may be less suitable.

The 35 f/1.8 OSS is a good alternative (again, depending on your use of focal lengths) - probably better for people, and the addition of OSS helps.
Sigma also make a 19, 30 & 60, all f/2.8 which are well regarded.

I'm really hoping for a prime that I could just keep on during the whole holiday. So having one that works in different scenarios is high on the list.

Bear in mind that the Nex5t is a cropper, so the 28mm will be a full-frame 42mm equivalent, which isn't very wide.

I use the Sigma 19mm on my A6000 and it is really good, and is a 28.5mm equivalent on full frame (or 35mm film, if you remember it :eek:)

It is a great focal length for street work.
 
I'd also recommend the Sigma 19mm. I use it along with the 30mm and 60mm versions when I'm using my Nex6 and they're all very capable, compact and great value too.
 
Another heads up for the Sigma 19, but it is 2.8.
Personally, I don't mind the 'standard' focal length, so 35mm would be just about right- and with 1.8 the 35mm OSS
would seem like a good bet.

I'm going to buy the Sigma 19mm F2.8.

In no rush, so may wait a few weeks and see if anyone on the forum sales area has one.

There are quite a few from TP in or near the Lake District. You may be able to meet someone to try one out.
Or, if there is a local photography shop see if they stock them.

That's a good idea. Not a great selection of shops around me but i'l ring around.
The idea of tying up with a TP member sounds good, they will probably have some tips!
 
you could get a cheapo wide and fisheye for your phone, i do like 235 degree fisheye :)
