Yes
Recently bought a Tamron AF 70-300mm Sony fit to go with my Alpha 200, however I cant seem to get it to auto focus in on a subject. I've tried everything that I can think of, however nothing seems to work.

I'm going to get back in touch with Jessops on Monday, but is there anything I may have missed or is it a case that the lens will not autofocus on the 200.

Any help greatly appreciated.

This may seem like a silly question but do you have AF turned on on both the lens and body?

Switched on in the body. There is not one for the lens though on the Sony fit version.

Should have added that to the first post....my bad

Yes there is, I have the same lens, see image below.

Is the end of your lens loose, you can turn it and the focus chances in the view finder?

EDIT: I dont know why I need 2 posts there. :D

Mate the PDF you linked to is for the exact same lens I have and the picture I posted is the same as on the PDF

Look at my image, the red arrow points to the AF switch on the lens

Yes there is, every lens has.

Well not this one....from user manual it states

FOCUSING (Autofocus) (Ref. Figs 1 & 2)

Switch the focusing mode switch of the camera to Auto focusing mode (AF) in case of Nikon, Sony, or Pentax. In case of Canon camera, switch the AF/MF switch (14) on the lens to AF. (Fig. 5). Press the shutter button lightly while viewing through the camera's viewfinder, the lens focuses automatically. An in-focus mark will light when the lens focuses on the main subject sharply. Press the shutter button further to photograph.

When set on AF mode, interfering with focusing ring (8) may cause serious damage to the lens mechanism.

For further details, please read the instruction manual of your camera.

Have I been advised by Jessops to buy a dud lens.... :'(

The user manual does state and shows a picture of the af switch. Take a picture of the lens and post it on here, the lens you have told us and the pdf both shows auto focus switches. All modern lenses have this feature.

Mate you have the same lens as I have and I can assure you that there is an AF switch on the lens.

Look at your lens at the place indicated in my image

Proved me wrong as well, sorry! Ill just stick to my canon knowledge! :D

i agree theres no af switch on the nikon model either

have you tried cleaning the contacts on the lens

i think the op has the LD lens not the DI lens i have the LD no switch

also are you in macro mode as the lens will only focus close up its quite fiddly but you have to focus below the macro setting then flick the switch down it sounds like your stuck in macro mode also the minimum focus distance for this lens is just under 1 metre

My tamron 70-300 before I traded it in for the sigma version, had the AF switch on the lens and it was a Nikon fit :)

are you still there scott or shall i just go to bed now

night all

Yes I have tried cleaning it with a rubber as suggested, no difference, also yes it is the LD lens...that shouldn't matter though should it? (as to auto focussing)
