New lens this weekend

Ok, new photographer would like new lens on payday! I only have the nikon 18-55mm kit lens and the nikon 55-200mm which again came with the camera (D3200)

I'm not rich, so bargains please! I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction after you hear what I Need it for...

This month I am photographing two family birthdays, both in nightclubs. So I'm guessing I need a fairly low aperture for the low light?? Also one of these parties has a dinner function first where the light will of course be better and I will be photographing individuals, pairs and groups.

I researched a couple...

50mm f/1.8 prime? It's certainly cheap enough!

tamron 17-50mm f/2.8?

Both good choices, also throw in the Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX

Also consider an external flash unit (if you don't already have one) Doesn't need to be Nikon either, some excellent 3rd party ones at good prices.

Yup, I got myself a Yongnuo YN-560 II, so will be my first outing with that as well.

Go for the prime in my view and get used to using the flash, ideally on a bracket or remotely off camera.
