i've bought the nikon 10-24mm lens which i cant wait for, but i need a filter mainly to protect the lens, so i'm guessing a uv filter will do, but i dont want put on something cheap that wont do the glass justice, nor do i want to go ott. Can anyone recommend a filter?

cheers, Al

You will need one with a really slim mount, otherwise you will see it on the edges of your widest angle shots.

thanks for the tip on the thin filter. Is the Hama HMC about the thinnest avaliable and wheres the best place to buy one?

cheers

Hoya make the best filters IMHO and Pro1 is top of their range, or newer HD range. I wouldn't fit anything less. About £50 in a slim-line mount.

If you must fit a protection filter that is. I wouldn't - use the lens hood.

B+W make slim (3mm) mount clear protection filters and UV filters.
The mounts are brass, multi coating on both sides of the filter glass - part of the Schneider group, so know a thing or two about lenses and glass

The only filters I would consider would be either Circular Polarising or ND Grads; and then only for effects. Use the lens hood if you want to protect the lens. :)
