thinking of getting a ef200 f2.8l with a 2x converter, which i can pick up for around £950.00, or would i be better of waiting for the 300 f4l, i would like to do nature/wildlife, and some sports.
thanks
Totally agree with the above... the 200 f2.8 is a super lens, it wors really well as a long portrait lens. However for wildlife I'd definitely wait for a 300 f4 IS, a 300 f4 with 1.4x tc will perform better than a 200 f2.8 with a 2x (plus you'll have IS which is handy when shooting at long focal lengths).
My own experiences mirror that of Les and Peter....the only downside is that you won't have a native 200mm option in your bag. The EF200/2.8 takes the 2x quite well but the resultant 400/5.6 is very much a fine weather setup....420/5.6 with IS copes in the gloom.
