Hey,

I have been looking at lenses a lot lately and will be getting a new one hopefully in the next few weeks. But i really dont know which one.

I have the 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm 1.8 II

I am looking at one to replace the kit lens, would like one with a bit more zoom and a wider aperture. I shot mainly mountain biking but do the odd nature shots.

Looking at spending about £200 but willing to buy one second hand.

Any recommendations would be great.

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (non VC) is always a favourite although it wouldn't offer you more zoom, can be had brand new from Hong Kong based sites for circa £245 so second hand example could be in your budget.
 
You could replace the kit lens with a similar f/2.8 lens, sell the kit lens and also get a 55-250mm canon lens. Will be slightly more than you quoted (250 to 300 maybe) but will replace the kit lens and give you a good range.

Would have to be second hand lenses though
 
Do you find you took many pics at the lower end of the zoom on your kit lens?

Maybe the 28-75mm 2.8 Tamron if you don't need so wide, cracking lens, fast AF...

Have a lok at your pics and see what you've done and what you might have wanted to do in those situations and see where that lands you in which zoom to buy ;)

Usually zoomed all the way in, ideally i would want to find one that costly slightly more and try get it second hand, but that one does look nice ;)
 
If its a zoom it isnt a true macro anyway, for zooms 'macro' is just an added feature of being able to focus more closely than you would traditional zooms. True macros are primes, and they tend to be very sharp because of their (relativity) simple construction, so they are infact very popular with portrait photography, due to the fact they tend to share the same ideal focal length too. Not all primes are macros though.

The Sigma 24-70 2.8 will be ideal from what i've gathered. I've never used one but it is on my wish list along with a sigma 70-200 2.8 so i guess i too recommend it.

Cheers, it just when searching through the Sigma lenses it tends to have two versions, a macro one that is cheaper and another a few hundred more. So i would be ok getting one that says macro then?

Also there is a 70-200 f2.8 in the buy and sell, would buy it but waiting on selling a few stuff atm.
