New lens

Hey all I've had my 550d with kit 18-55mm lens for a couple of months now and I'm looking for a lens with a bit more zoom I don't want to spend mega bucks as I'm still new to photography.
Has anyone any ideas for me and rough prices.

You mean a longer lens to complement the 18-55?

If so then 55-250 or, if you can stretch to it, the 70-200 f/4L
 
£120 is a good price for the 55-250 and it's a bargain for what it is.

The 70-200 is in a different league again but it's not cheap at circa £500, although you can get them for under £400 used.
 
Think I'll go for the 55-250 for the min. The wife might kill me if I spend £500 on a lens considering I'm only starting out.

The first thing you need to learn is that you NEVER tell the wife how much you really paid. You always "just happened to see" a special offer/2nd hand bargain, that you simply couldn't refuse.

The bargains I've had over the years.... ;-)

I've seen the older version for that price. You want the IS II which may be a little more expensive, eg £189.99 on Amazon.

Why spend more money when its the same lens just with a few bits changed, ive got the original and its absolutely briliant lens.
 
Changed my mind again found sum spare cash so it's now either ef 70-300 f/4-5.6 is usm or ef 70-200 f/4.0L usm

So it's the better glass with no I.S or the not so better glass with I.S
