New lenses from Sigma

I've not seen this in the news section here yet but apparently Sigma have announced some new full frame lenses. The ones that caught my eye were the OS/IS equipped 70-200mm f/2.8 and an 85mm f/1.4 :D

Me too! The 85mm is designed along the same principles as their 50mm f/1.4 apparently with an oversized front element.

I'm very interested in that one having used an 85 f/1.2L for over a year but not wanting so much money tied in a lens that was only being used maybe 1/4 of the time I was shooting.
 
if its anything like the 50mm f1.4 and 30mm f1.4 then i want one. sony dont do a cheap 85mm f1.8 so i might opt for this if is going to be around £500 which i think it will be, i would love to get an outfit of the 30mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 these would be the three most used lenses.
 
Lol!! I just bought a Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM today!! Oh well, I love this lens to bits anyway and I bet the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 will be rather...er, costly? :)
 
I have quite a little collection of Sigma primes...

20mm f1.8, 30mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4 and 150mm f2.8.

I think I'd like a fast 85mm too :)
 
interestingly given that Sigma are the 1 large indepedent lens company making lenses in 4/3 mount there is no mention of 4/3 mount versions.
 
I had a play around with Steff's new Canon 85mm f1.8 earlier and was very impressed with it. Sigma will have to go a long way to beat it in terms of sharpness and contrast!

I'll be interested to see how much that 85mm is going to be. :)
 
I love the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and if the 85mm f/1.4 is anything like it then it will be hard to resist. I currently have the Canon f/1.8 but find the rendering of the Sigma 50 much nicer (bokeh, contrast).

I haven't seen any pricing for the Sigma 85 but expect it would be closer to the Sigma 50 price than the Canon 85L price - which is obviously a good thing!
 
not had the PR in for these yet, the problem with mass mailing press contacts is that they end up in the spam bin..

Camerapricebuster lists that as ~820 GBP. I'd be surprised if Sigma pitched their 85 at that price point and would expect to see something around the 400-600 mark. But I'm guessing :-)
 
Bloody hell, this announcement almost makes me want to resist moving to full frame (but that will inevitably happen when I get a job and start earning ;) ) .... Mega wide angle of 8-16mm, an IS version of 17-50 - Nikon hasn't got anything that can really touch these! Already have the 85/1.4 which with it's legendary status will be difficult to match, but the Sigma 50/1.4 is pretty damn cult as it is so it should be very interesting!
 
This is really interesting now. If that 70-200 f/2.8 OS is anywhere near as good as Canon one (mk1) and costs around £600 then we have a winner! 8-16 will surely look just as attractive, as the 17-50mm OS. If FLD glass makes a big improvement then canikon has a lot to fear. I really want to try that stuff.

I know. I was just imagining ;). I was actually hoping Sigma would convert to the 4/3rds standard and co-develop Foveon. I think the re-released SD15 is the final nail in the dSLR lineup coffin.

These lenses are a great step though.
 
looks like there will be a Sigma 17-50mm OS as well .. will be interesting to see if it s better than the Tamron version !!

But it will not be around the £600 as the non OS is £650 approx so my guess it will be £8-900.

The 10-20 focuses pretty damn close as it is?! Remember it's from the sensor plane. If I ever try and take a mega distorted portrait the front element practically touches the subject's nose - the lens focusses so close already?!
 
I was thinking of distorted pet portraits, and making better use of the extra 2mm - holding the camera near the subject rather than using the viewfinder. Admittedly, my view is coloured by use of the Tokina 11-16mm with its 30cm minimum focus distance.
 
8mm at ƒ/8 with 24cm focus distance gives 15cm near focus limit :thumbs:

It'll be way more than £600. I think you are going to be looking at around £900+.
 
the existing Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM II is ~£650 so I agree that it's more likely imo to be £8-900 in OS form.
 
Wonder how their 17-50mm f/2.8 will stack up against the Tamromn and OEM versions?

That 8-16mm looks a bit bonkers.....

Why not :shrug:? They did with their Nikon fit 50mm F/1.4 HSM - that had a higher street price than the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S and still does, as far as I know :|.

Still, it's a better lens than the Nikkor, so why not :D.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but has anybody got even a whiff of these lenses yet? I'm really interested in the 85mm f/1.4... :shrug:
 
Me too. I have the Sigma 30 and 50mm f1.4's and would probably get the 85.

I keep checking the usual shops and sites but there's no sign of it yet. I even asked here and got ignored so maybe no one knows?

Could always email Sigma..
