Well, this isn't a lens that I expected to see from Nikon this year, but then again, why ever not :)?

Pre-order price is 200 quid (from WE), which I believe is roughly twice what the previous (non-motorised version) sold for.

Given that it is going to be very, very difficult to squeeze significantly better IQ out of a 50mm prime than Nikon managed with the previous (f/1.8 AF-D) version, I'm curious to know what people here think about the pricing of the new one and am very much looking forward to seeing how it performs :).

In fairness, 200 quid is still a very good price to pay for the kind of IQ that this lens ought to be able to produce and I have to say, personally, I think that it looks grrrrreat :D!

What do you folks think?
 
For £200 it's probably worth paying the £80 extra for the 1.4.

That's a good point, Dman - I hadn't even considered that option (as I already own the Sigma 50mm f/1.4) :|. Perhaps Nikon will up the price on the f/1.4 now :(.
 
Having said that, I was assuming it was still the £270 odd that it was when I bought it, just seen one on Amazon for £360, that can't be right, surely??
