Yes
There's already a thread for the D7000, so I'll skip that part.

1. New MB-D11 battery grip for D7000
End of October
Price tbc

2. AF-S 35mm f1.4G
Late November
Looks like it will be about £1,700, not far off someone's £1,600 estimate

3. AF-S 200mm f2G ED VR II
Early October!
£5,000-£5,500

4. SB-700 Speedlite - all the SB-900 functions, but in a smaller body
Release TBC
£300 ish

Discuss!

How can the SB700 be smaller and keep the SB900's capabilities? The main thing on the SB900 vs the older (and considerably smaller) SB800 is the range to which it will zoom - and thats down to mechanics, I'd doubt you'd get that package into a noticeably smaller space.

Still, might be interesting, although I have a SB800 for when I want/need less intimidation :D

Chris - I think the SB700 is a replacement for the SB600.

They're introducing odd numbers for the replacements, i.e. SB900 replaces SB800 / SB700 replaces SB600. The next step is likely to be: SB500 replaces SB400.

Ah yes, I didn't say it was a direct SB900 replacement, just that it had nicked some features, such as the ability to use it as a master unit

Do you need PC Sync?

It's still technology that some people like - I have skyports and would be knackered without a PC port.

Suppose Nikon's argument is that CLS is now available on any Nikon DSLR with a pop-up flash so the SB700 can be triggered wirelessly by any camera they made (bar the D2/D3 bodies) in recent years.

Looks like a great little flash, more advanced an in keeping with the modern interface of the SB900.

Yep. For those using Pocket Wizards and the like for off camera flash.

One day PW will produce the Nikon version of the FlexTT5 and it might be less important then.

In my opinion, Nikon CLS is too unreliable outdoors in bright light, so I think it is a mistake to remove the PC sync.

I won't be buying one :shake:

Just hope its more user freindly than the SB600, I've taken to setting iy up and once I've finish doing a factory reset because its quicker than going through all the menus!

I agree - PC Sync is useful - and certainly what I would want to see on a 300 quid flash unit!

And yes, CLS is very clever but almost useless for daytime outdoors IMHO - which is why I bought Skyports... which is why need PC Sync :)

Yes me too, I always pick it up, reset it and then change the settings I am interested in.

I have an SB600 which I use in my day job too and have just got an SB900 after swapping for my SB800 and power pack with DiddyDave. I really do like the SB900, the physical switch to change mode and the automatic sensing of FX/DX plus 200mm zoom.

£300 ish

Including commander mode?

£300-ish seems a bit of a rip-off when the SB-900 is also £300-ish.

Indeed. I was just doing reading up on it, and it does indeed have commander mode. I was thinking this'd be a good cheaper alternative to an SU-800 as a commander, but I'm thinking might as well just get another SB-900.

I think it'll be nearer £265/275 street price, making the 900 a bit of a bargain...

If it is I can't see them selling many

Someone like YN needs to produce a cheap iTTL and CLS flash! Still I've got mine already :D

The SU800 can be had for just over £200, I think......

But for the difference I would just get all SB900s anyway. I don't see the point in a small saving and then loosing functionality.

I thought about it, thought about it some more and then bought the SU-800 and I don't regret the choice, although if I were to do it again, now that he SU800 price has risen and that of the SB900 dropped I may have gone the other way.

I know what you mean, but I went down the safari light route in the end!

I thought PW had a Nikon version of FlexTT5 in the pipeline - this 'progress report' from June says it's in beta: http://www.pocketwizard.com/news_events/news/june2010_updates/

I have both the SB600 and the SB900. I find the SB 600 fiddly and hard to get the settings I want ( Maybe just the SB600 I have). To my mind if your going to spend out the price of the SB700, for the few extra quid I would definately go for the SB900 every time.
