Evening all,
I finally got around to building my new PC the other week and am slowly getting used to how different Win7 is to XP having completely skipped Vista. I'm just realising though that I've got some pretty serious colour problems.
I'm using the graphics built into the mobo and I've got a 2006 LG 194WT monitor. On my old PC the monitor had a small problem with the greys but in general the colour output was pretty good. On the new PC the colours are wrecked to the point I can't really comment on exposure, white balance or PP in general because I know I'm not seeing photos how they're meant to be viewed.
I'ce calibrated using a Spyder3 with the most up to date software version, it made a difference but I'm not sure if it has made it better. The spyder profile is assigned to the monitor but here's my first question.
Win7 doesn't recognise the monitor specifically. It has it listed as a Generic PnP device. Could part of the problem be because it's not using the right driver for the monitor?
I went to the LG website and there's only a driver for WinXP (HERE). I downloaded it anyway but then couldn't find a way to replace the driver in Win7. In the control panel/properties page the update drivers button is active (but that only searches for new Generic PnP device drivers) but all of the other buttons such as manually install driver are disabled.
Am I really going to have to buy a newer monitor? Surely not.
I have notice one other thing though. In LR my photos don't look as out of whack as the ones I've been viewing in my web browser. that's not conclusive though as I've not imported the digital photos yet only the film ones and their colour are always open to interpretation anyway. I suppose there's a chance that Chroms is buggering up the images, perhaps I'd be better off switching to a colour managed browser. Is firefox still the only browser that offers colour management?
