Hi there,

I am incredibly new to Photography and have recently found out that a photographer is perfectly within his rights to take a photo of practically anything he likes whilst in a public place... I was wondering if there was any form of documentation I can get that I can present whilst out and about, should I be approached by someone trying to tell me that what I am doing is Illegal?

Looking forward to any replies

Dave :D

Hi Dave,

i have seen some leaflets eg, here, but most i have seen still mention section 44 which is no longer relevant to photographers. There have been multiple threads regarding photographers being stopped, and some OTT police interaction 'gets my back up'.

But there are also a minority of photographers that seem to create situations and bait police / security guards and the public. Just use a little empathy and common sense and you should be ok.

if they already took the hump enough to confront you.. i doubt they will then take the time to read something you printed out that they have no way of knowing is true or if you wrote it yourself..

common sense, knowledge of the real facts along with good manners and self control is all you need :)
