A while ago I asked for some suggestions regarding a new editing pc build. Well, i finally got around to building the new machine yesterday, and promptly went out and bought a copy of Skyrim to cough.... test it out.

Today i will mainly be installing software and transferring files from my old pc.

The final spec is as follows. I know its a little overkill for lightroom and ps5, but i wanted to be able to play the odd game or two :naughty:

  • i7 2700K @ 4.5 Ghz (Overclocked by the motherboard automatically)
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
  • Asus P8P67 Pro Mobo
  • OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB SSD
  • 1 TB WD hardrive x 2
  • Radeon HD 6970
  • Corsair H100 CPU Cooler
  • Corsair HX 650 PSU
  • Samsung Bluray Drive

I cant wait to get some editing done on it! Now, im going out to take some photos..... or am I going to play Skyrim? Hmnmmmm

that's the way i had to sell it to the wife.... if i said i wanted a computer for gaming there is no way on earth she would have let me spend any money, let alone the money i did! :)

Now i just wish my free coupon for BF3 would work!
 
Not ait tweaker, its the asus "auto tuning" feature. Just turned it on, and it overclocks when it needs to, its part of their power management system thing...

Just watch the bclk, it can chuck some odd figures in there, i had a few hangs which i believe were caused by those. Would be best to manually set the values in the bios in my opinion.
 
okay i will look into doing that. Ive never been a fan of overclocking in the past, never had a need and never really had the time to read up about it all, so have kept clear.

Is there a simple guide?

Yes. Leave everything at standard multiplier (i.e. BCLK 100MHz) and all the voltages at stock and change the maximum turbo multiplier. It is one number in the Asus BIOS (other than taking it out of auto). That way, you are just racking up the clock multiplier which means everything else on the board which is driven off bclk
remains stable.

The best way to prove stability is to download RealTemp and leave it running the prime95 benchmark for a couple of hours....
