Yes
I have used pixelpost since I started my photoblog and at the time loved the many plugins and exciting future plans, but it seems the new version is now on hold :( (http://www.pixelpost.org/blog/2010/07/14/view-on-pixelpost/) added to the fact that very few plugins seem to get updated, such as the Lightroom export plugin which still doesn't work with Lightroom 3.

Is it time to switch to something else? if so does anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking Wordpress for maximum ease, but is there other good stuff out there? not totally against paying a small fee for something more reliable :)

I use Wordpress for mine and have been pleasantly surprised how easy it was to pick up compared to last time I tried a few years back. After a good look I couldn't find anything else that suited my needs, and the cheaper end of the paid sites didn't seem to have enough to differentiate them from the free / low cost Wordpress themes

I too will be very interested in how this thread progresses, I too have a pixelpost blog and am looking to update it. Friend at work has recently setup a wordpress website with integrated blog and I think it works so well that I may well do one myself. Unless there are some better suggestions that arise from this thread.

Looking forward to the responces.

Having done a little research today I have come across the following - http://www.photocrati.com/

What do we think of this? It looks like a rather powerful tool that incorperates a full website with blog included and you can have various sorts of media on there inc slideshows, single images and video as wel.

I've also been using pixelpost for a while, so this news is a bit of a shame as it has some great features and was designed specifically for photoblogs unlike wordpress which I also considered last time I redone my site. There's quite a lot of themes/addons/hacks etc for it too. Hopefully they're find some new coders to finish it off.

I've had a look at 'cheesecake' but to be honest doesn't look anywhere as usefull as pixelpost. Very few addons available for it. As for photocrati, looks like you have to pay for it plus all the included themes look exactly the same, just with the title bar moved around a bit.

Pixel post has addons for flickr, gallery2, coppermine, full exif support (the theme im using even gives you a rgb histogram), good comments system etc inc loads more... just a shame all that work sounds like its going in the bin.

While it's undeniably unfortunate if the development stops or stay on hold indefinite, I'm not sure I see a reason for immediately jumping ship.

Unless 2.0 contains some must-have features that other software have; then surely the current setup, which seems to work fine, should still be usable?

Having said that; Wordpress seem to have some very neat photoblog themes. Back in the day the two big photoblog solutions where Pixelpost and
Movable Type; maybe the latter might be an option still?

I used pixelpost for a while but dropped it after I spent some time trying to extend it. It's in principle a nice idea using tags to extend it but the underlying design was limiting and not very well thought out. And the code, aside from being a bit clumsy, wasn't commented, which is always a bad sign.

I'm using wordpress now, with Nextgen gallery as a base for a bunch of my own custom display plugins. I'm finding it much easier to work with.

For the mean time I think I'll stick with pixelpost, but will probably change it in a while to something with more support. I came across 'Graph Paper Press' (http://graphpaperpress.com/) who seem to do some neat photography themes for wordpress. Some of them you have to pay for, but some are free. I quite like the "Widescreen" theme.

What do you guys think of it?

It does work well on a basic level, but the community seems to be dying and no new updates to the basic code etc isn't going to bring the community back so plugins will stop appearing and current ones will stop being updated (already happening). Just seems to be a bit of a start of the end.

True, and it's unfortunate if it will be so. Pixelpost has always been extremely easy to use and filled with features.

Having mentioned Movable Type earlier I rekindled my own interest in it, so will check it out again.

Having said that; dead or stalled software has a way of resurfacing in the open-source community. Let's hope that'll be the case here too.

Hmmm tis a shame, i have used it for a few years but it is starting to show it's age now.

I have been looking at the mighty Wordpress for a while now, so this announcement will only make me look harder, sure there are plenty of photoblog themes, and it needs a few plugins to do what you need it to, but I have yet to experience the simplicity if Pixelpost in any other 'blogging' web app.

I don't want to write loads of stuff, I just want to easily upload my photos with the minimum of effort.

Any WP users recommend the best photoblog plugins?

I'm using ProPhoto Blog on Wordpress, after using PixelPost for a while. Granted ProPhoto isn't free, but you get what you pay for, it's vastly superior to PixelPost all round imo.
