Hi guys, having just purchased a flash, as rightly recommended to me by many on TP, I was looking to purchase some better glass. I was looking to get the Canon 24-70 lens which is retailing at just under £1000 at Jessops at the moment but I then stumbled upon Tamron's new 24-70 Di VC lens which is going to be released at some point this year. I know the Canon 24-70 is a few years old, so would the new Tamron offering be of better quality in terms of optics? I know many don't consider 3rd party lenses, however the new Canon is 24-70 is over £2000, which is way off my budget, photography is just a hobby for me. Thank you for your views in advance.

It's impossible to say as the lens hasn't been released yet. They current mid-range Tamron zoom, the 28-75mm f2.8 has very fine optics but if falls far, far the behind the Canon on build quality and AF speed. These are the merits the new one will potentially improve on (as well as VC and the fact it's wider of course).

I can recommend the current 28-75mm f2.8 Tamron (the 18-50mm f2.8 too if using a non full frame body), and at about £300 ish new, it's a steal.
