Hi guys
New to photography, but been on this website a while looking through all your fantastic captures and feel i have a real passion for photography.
Could any of you please give me a indication to what camera to buy and any tips?

Like to photograph animals/ people.

need some data..............

budget
subjects.....indoors with kids, landscapes, wildlife, birds in garden, etc

or
start off with any entry level Canon or Nikon with its standard kit lens

Pentax/Sony owners can add info too....

use for a year - then sell to upgrade to a camera which you then know will fill your needs

also budget for
several 4GB memory cards
a £100 tripod [really!!]
camera bag

Best advice I was given was to go into a camera shop and have a play with all of them. It's surprising how different they feel

(btw, be warned - this usually turns into a very expensive hobby!!!)

Ive been looking online and realised it is a very expensive hobby but judging by everyone's fantastic photos i think it will be worth it

By all means buy online but definitely go to a shop and have a play with the cameras. You will almost certainly find that one camera will suit you better than the others.

Bit of general buying advice. I would reccommend allowing a day to look at the cameras but say to yourself that you are not going to buy today whatever the 'special' deal that is offered. Allow a night to think things over.
