I have been so impressed by the images posted on the Close-up and Macro forums I have been inspired to have a go myself. So I've spent all my pocketmoney on a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX AF Macro lens which I got secondhand off Ebay.

Its described as "used once only, in immaculate condition" and comes with its original box, instructions and the soft case. It should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday!!

Don't be surprised if, once I've got it, I start posting daft questions!!!

Must be my weekend - I also picked up a Nikon Coolpix L2 point 'n' shoot at a Car Boot sale - tested it already and it works perfectly. Just the right size for my shirt pocket!

All I have to do now is break the news to my wife.............................:help:

 A common scenario in the world of TP! :)

I'm sure married members on here have loads of techniques for telling the missus. I don't have that problem myself at the moment, but that could change in the future of course, then it'll be me asking the same question..

Good luck with the lens. It's a highly regarded lens, especially for macro shots!

Enjoy :woot:

PS. your username may become so apt if she finds out:exit: :coat::lol:;)

Hey dont fret yet, wait until you buy your first white L lens, then providing you are still married, you have an awful lot of explaining to do.

NB: The 105 macro is a great lens. Enjoy

Oh, right. 100-400L coming this week.

I'm not going to admit to any given number of black lenses, not because I've lost count - yet - but because it's a moving target.

You know how it is, you start off with a kit lens or two, you get into web fora, you read online reviews (have you noticed how magazines nearly always fudge reviews? I used to know the editor of a shooting sports magazine and he told me that if ever they told it the way it is, the supply or review items of that brand suddenly dried up :bonk:) and guides at EPay...

Suddenly it's like you've got distant relatives in your home.. you were really looking forward to welcoming them, they come and stay a while, you take them out to all your favourite places and either they repay your hospitality and trust and turn out to be "really nice, they pay their own way, they get stuck in and don't ask favours all the time" or they ****** you off more and more, they let you down, they mess you about and suddenly they've started to outstay their welcome. So they go, and either before they go or a week or two after (this doesn't seem to matter), another turns up and the whole "visit" starts over again.

NB: The 105 macro is a great lens. Enjoy

I'll second that. Use it in auto, use it in manual, learn to love it. (She's my favourite in-law with a permanent invitation as house guest:clap:)

Do what my wife does. She buys stuff - shoes - clothes etc then puts them in the cupboard for a few weeks.

I notice new item (sometimes) -"is that new" I ask. "No" she replies "I've had it a while". Seems that's OK by way of an excuse for her, I'll have to try that with my first L lens (purchase coming soon hopefully)

Haha, just gotta say, I was skim reading through this , but actually mis-read you to say "then proving you are still married, will take an awful lot of explaining!"

Made me just chuckle.

Thanks for all your (amusing) comments!

Have now broken news to her - but by "talking up" the savings I've made by buying second-hand over new!!

She took it quite well (bless her) but I suspect Xmas will be expensive for me this year!!!

I've been happily married for 36 years and it's all down to those two little words...................."yes dear"!!

As soon as I get the macro lens and have practised a bit, I'll post some pics.

Wait until you tell her after having it for a few weeks that you're going to get the Siggy 150 Macro as well :D
