Im New to photography looking for help in learning how to shoot in low light using a flash . What settings should I use and why ?

What camera and flash do you have at the moment,the answer to your question is totally dependent on this.

I have a 5d mark ii and a 600.ex. flash

Short answer indoors put the camera to manual,the flash to ETTL, ignore the in camera meter and play.Remember flash is two exposures,one for the ambient controlled by ISO shutter speed and aperture and one for fill light controlled by the flash
