New to photography

Hi guys, Im new to photography and would like some help in choosing a new lens.

Ive got a Nikon D3100 with the standard 18-55mm lens but I would like to have a telephoto lens for when I go out to the woods and camping etc with my family to capture wildlife and stuff.

I was looking at the Sigma 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 OS DG Lens but to be honest its all so confusing and im completely lost as to what im looking for now.

My budget is around £120 (I know this isnt alot of money to spend on a lens but im never going to take professional pics)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will you get the optically stabilsed Sigma for £120?? Are you sure you're not looking at the normal budget telephoto from them?

Theres one on ebay im keeping an eye on at the moment. I have also looked at the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro. I would just like some help on what would be a great budget telephoto lens.

The Tamron is also one to look at. If you want the 300 focal length then maybe keep an eye out for a good used 55-300 from Nikon. They also have VR which will be a godsend at 300mm.

£120 budget I would be getting a Nikkor 55-200 DX VR which is an excellent lens and one I still use, I have always found the budget 70-300mm's disappointing.

That was one I was looking at but went for a brand new AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f4.5 - 5.6G ED VR instead which only cost me £137
