New tripod head needs adapter - where can I find one?

I have a 30-year-old Slik 88 tripod whose original pan-and-tilt head attaches with a 1/4" thread. Recently I bought in the classifieds a Redsnapper RSH12 ball head but it has a 5/8" thread, so I need an adapter.

I've googled quite a bit but surprisingly no luck so far in finding a simple threaded bushing. (Yeah, not surprising since I got the size wrong :bang:) Since I bought the head s/h here rather than new from Redsnapper I feel a bit embarrassed about asking Joe!

The Slik is in good condition so I don't really want to buy another tripod unless I have to. Do all modern tripods use a 5/8" thread between the tripod body and the head?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Edit: Of course it is a 3/8" - I've never been very good at reading verniers in Imperial .... :nuts:

No - I mean five-eighth to 1/4". The Slik 3-way head is mounted onto the main body of the pod with a 1/4" screw (same as the camera mount) but the Redsnapper ballhead (female) screw is too loose - I have measured it with a vernier at 5/8" but I don't know what the thread pitch is.

All my google searching is throwing up the kind of adapter you are talking about, but not the one I need. Thanks for the offer, though.

You are wrong!

Most tripods have either a 1/4" UNC or 3/8"-16 UNC thread regardless of what you have measured it at, that is what the Redsnapper ballhead has.
 
Yep. The Redsnapper ballhead is definitely 3/8".
