I have just come by some money that I can add ti my tripod budget. I am now seriously considering buying something very good that will last me for years "buy right, buy once" kind of thing. ;)

I am really interested in some of the Gitzos as I am after something that is small and light that can be carried easilly as I will hopefully be travelling a lot if I get the new job I am after.

I have my eye on both the Basalt GT2840C and the carbon fiber GT1541T. Both about the same price. I like the look of the basalt one but thought basalt was supposed to be a cheaper alternative to carbon? :naughty:

Anyway any suggestions which would be best? (or any other tripods for that matter) Budget is about £350. I will be putting a Canon 7D and either 17-40L or 100-400 L on it.

Take a look at Benro C 268 with J ball head on ebay..........

Yes it's a Chinese copy, but it's a damn good copy & very sturdy, they also do even more heavy duty kit with Wimberley gimbal head copies too.......ask Hoppy.

Check out DC stuffs ebay shop with 100% +ve feedback and I've not heard of anyone paying import duty either.

For my new lightweight setup I have gone with a Gitzo 1541T, Markins Q3T mk2 & RRS B2 LR II clamp. The RRS stuff hasn't arrived yet, but the Gitzo and Markins kit is really nice. The 1541T is really nice and light and collapses pretty small. It is also very sturdy for its light weight and size. :)
