Can't see you site using IE6, just get the loading timer and then it just sits there.

Site takes way way to long to load

I was about to close down the browser window when it eventually loaded but I see no background image

It loads quick in Chrome, but again no background image.

I don't know what your definition of quick is then because I am using Chrome as well and as I said it took way way to long to load

Between one and two seconds. Considerably quicker than IE.

I can just about see a background image poking out from the content, but it's very dark grey on black so hardly visible (on iPad).

Agreed that its awfully slow to load, I guess it's buffering the images?
