Best of a bad bunch, this is the only one out of eighty-four that I kept. When I arrived, there was a light mist, then the sun came out just enough to burn it away but not enough to be interesting, then went away altogether, just leaving flat light and little interest. As far as photos taken on dull overcast days, I'm happy with it and I do like the composition, almost like there's a path drawing into the forest.

Woodland shots are generally best when you can't see the sky - I think if you remove it it does improve the image but it's all a bit flat as you say, and I don't think the foreground rock and foliage is helping really. The branch at the bottom should probably be cropped out if you want to keep the shot, but I think you'd be better off going back for the misty conditions you were after
