Hi Guys and Girls,
Come febuary im going to have a nice £600 Spare cash to spend and im wanting to get a lovely new high zoom lens for my canon 40D.
Ive been thinking on getting the Sigma 120-400mm but thought for just a little more cash i could get the 150-500mm.

Just wondering what you guys thought on these two lenses or if you would sugest any others that would be 400mm or higher but must have IS/OS/VC etc.. (depending on what brand)

I have the 150-500 and I'm well pleased with it, the only other real option is the Canon 100-400 which costs more than both the Sigma offerings. I see you are not far from me so if you want to arrange a shoot and try it out give me a shout.
 
Can't comment on the 120, but I have the 150 - 500 on my Nikon and have been very impressed with it.
 
OS is preffered as you can shoot 4 stops lower, thats quite impressive on the 150-500, i dont know if the 120-400 has that but i shot at 1/100sec @ 400mm and there was no blur, brill lens for the money- OneStopDigital could be the place to get it within your budget.
 
Think from the comments I'll go for the 150-500mm, can't remember where I saw it but have bookmarked it on my laptop for £580 new.
 
What are you wanting the lens for? I was contemplating a 120-400 but when I mentioned that it would be mainly for motor sport I the advice I got was it would be too slow when focussing.
 
Mainly for birds and wildlife, saving for a sigma 10-24 aswell. So gonna be an expensive start to the year for me, lol.
 
I thought they were more like £750 brand new. Can you give us the link where you have seen them for £580?

£580 seems far too cheap for that lens. Be careful, there are a lot of dodgy websites out there, so make sure it's a reliable company before ordering!
I got mine for about £720ish I think. It's a nice lens, but very big and heavy, and difficult to use when you first get it.
 
The £609 one is on Digital Rev. I quote their T&C:
"The price for the goods quoted on the website shall be exclusive of all costs of carriage and insurance and applicable import Tax/VAT/GST and duty which the buyer shall pay in addition."

And the one listed at £584, that sounds too good to be true, so it probably is.
