hi all my name is gary i havent been taking photos long and cant really afford to get stuck in like im sure most of you. however i do like taking photos.
recently i attended the england andorra game at wembley and like every other person i had a fantastic time watching england stomp home 6-0 victors, before durin and after the game i took a fair few photos to remember my day but when i sent them to truprint to be printed out they have all returned blurry and im quite dissapointed. they were all printed in 6x4 except 2 were 10x8. could this be because i resized the images on my computer before i sent them to be printed (still have the origional sizes too) or something i have done wrong or just a naff camera?.
im not a hardcore photographer but its a shame they didnt come out printed as good as the look on my computer.
the camera i use is a fujifilm finepix j10 8.2 mega pixels 3x optical zoom with fujinon zoom lens 3xf=6.2-18.6mm 1:2.8-5.2 (sorry just copied all that of the camera)
thanks for reading
gary

It could be due to cropping/resizing

Any chance you could post one of the blurry ones.

It would be nice to see the original too.

to be honest i think you would struggle with that camera , can you post an example for all to see and comment on :)

ok i shall try

they both seem to look great on my computer i dont know whats wrong they are far more blurry than this anyway and i know its not the best camera but ive had cheaper that have been better or i got better prints from

Any chance you could post the original raw / jpg file so i can download it and have a look at it ?.

Try putting the original file somewhere on the internet and posting a link to it so that people can see it before any resizing or other processing has been done to it.

Susie,

I have the file here (Gary emailed it me) and it looks like its a combination of a few things, small aperture, high iso for a compact, back lit subjects, and general softness to the image, probably from the lens being wide open.

just wondering if theres any news on what can be done for my picture or not as the case may be?

It also seems to me that the focus may be on the pitch and not on the people in front. When you have it printed does the pitch look sharp or not? If not you could add some sharpening before trying to print again, or try getting them printed elsewhere.

Hi Gary - I think, unfortunately, you won't be able to recover your picture in the way you want - softness is almost impossible to correct with a computer. I agree with other peoples' technical reasoning for why the shots haven't worked, but to put it simply, I think your camera has been a bit overwhelmed by the scene. It doesn't see things in the way that your eye sees them, and it has been unable to "recognise" a clear and distinct thing to focus on - hence why the whole image is averagely soft.

I'm not familiar with your camera. When you focus on something, do you get some sort of guide box pop up on the LCD screen? If so, can you remember what happened when you took this shot?

it does have a guide box you press the button down half way and it supposedly focuses

unfortunately i am in the picture on the right so someone else took the photo so i couldnt say

oh well thanks for your help guys i suppose i should just put myself through the pain again and go back to wembley and try again this time with a new camera

In addition to what's been said above, you don't want to size down before sending to print - the more information the printer has to work with the better.

Also apparently printed images are usually a bit softer than viewed on screen anyway, so it's good practice to sharpen images before they go to print.
