Morning All
I am going to buy my fist DSLR next weekend. I have used a point and click but thats it. Now after reading reviews on the web I was going to buy the Nikon d3100 but after joining here this week and doing more reading I am now not sure if I should buy the d90. I will be going to the IOM T.T. at the end of May so will be taking scenery,people motorcycles moving (hopefully) and stationary motorcycles. Also what would be the best lens and memory card should I by with it.Also if there is anything else you think I should buy My budget will be £1000.00

A D90 would be my choice, pair it with a Nikon 70-300mm VR and you have a pretty good combo, although you might need to raise the budget slightly. If you buy used, you will comfortably get those two in budget with enough left for something wider, a 35mm f/1.8 for example. Alternatively the 55-200mm seems to get reasonably good reviews although Ive never used one myself.

Ive always used sandisk Ultra or Extreme memory cards and never had a problem.
 
I am a canon man myself so have no experience of it myself but this guy is one of my contacts on flickr and his photos are epic you really should check hum out and he is a D90 user

Thanks for the quick reply Tom Sorry to sound thick but are saying buy the one lens or buy the 70x500 aswell as the kit lens Also where would be the best place to buy and what would be a good book for a learner like me

Depends what the kit lens is. If you want shots of the TT, I'm imagining you'll need something longer than the kit lens will provide, as most kit lenses are usually 18-55 or 18-70. The 70-300VR is a stunning lens for the money, super sharp and has the VR to make it eaier to handhold at slower shutter speeds. If you get a kit lens and the 70-300VR, you'd be pretty much set for a while until you discover in time what you use the most and upgrade accordingly.

Ive bought most of my camera gear here or Ebay. You cant get onto the classifieds yet, so you'll have to look elsewhere. again it depends if you want new or second hand. Secondhand will get you more gear for your money, but some people prefer new.

As for books, its a personal thing for most. Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is pretty well regarded, but some dont like his style. Scot Kelby also has quite a few books out. And there is always the dummies guide type thing.
