Newbie Question on Camera Types

your somewhat pointless and vaguely argumentative interjections

hardly - was just giving my opinion which is no more pointless or argumentative than yours but in the interests of not letting this thread get into a silly argument - Yes a 4/3 may be good, as is a DSLR and it is each to their own as always.
I have used both and know what I prefer (especially within a £150 budget so was giving my opinion on that). I have been through more cameras than I care to mention over the last 6 months finding one that I felt happy with and it turned out to be an old SLR . The larger size is actually what made it better to use for me whereas I had my mind stuck on getting a smaller camera that can match the other aspects of a DSLR but never found one.

I bought one last week and it is mint - £106

There are a steady stream of them going on eBay - I just had to wait for a few days and keep bidding just over £100 until I got one. Find one that is ending on say 11:00 on a weekday. Just checked eBay and in fact one sold this morning at 09:20 for dead on £100 and was listed as like new.

Having a steady stream of something popping up on eBay may possibly get me thinking, why?.  ;)

A 20D is quite big camera, but especially compared to a Bridge or M4/3 camera, and it is something I'd try out in a shop first. You may not be able to check a 20D, or any other camera that you may be thinking of 2nd hand, but there is normally a newer version, or something of similar size and weight.

Not saying the size is a good or bad thing, it's a personal choice, but something to keep in mind. ;)

I guess they just sold quite a few of them over the years they were made. I do sometimes wonder how so many of the same model of something seem to be available. I don't think there are a lot of them because they are bad as they are well rated but they are pretty old which would write them off for most people.

Yes, it is big (well, DSLR sized!) but not that heavy. It is actually light compared to my wife's Sony A700. I did recommend a DSLR only if small size is not a requirement.

Could anyone give me an feed back on the Sony A100? ta

Probably best in comparision to Cannon 300/350D

Can't comment on A100 specifically but I like Sony DSLRs. My wife has an A700 and it is very good. They have in body stabilisation meaning you can use a whole load of Minolta lens plus the current and not quite so current Sony lenses without having to worry about the lens having IS.

They seem well built enough, buttons in right places, good enough screen etc,. The A100 is the cheapest one they made though so don't know what the compromises were.

Cheers DPReview seem to rate it well.

Obviously Cannon is the suposed "brand of choice" but seen the A100 for £150 just wondering if i get more bang for my buck
