Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. Bit of a newbie to photography, so my terminology won't be up to scratch.
Here's the situation with my current project. I'm working on a few sort of time lapses using my GoPro hero3+, these may require six months plus of photos/clips. Not the kind of thing where I can just leave the camera out. Nor do I believe I can leave a mount stuck to my desired spots. So at the moment I have scratched lines on my GoPro mount/case where the hinge is, to mark which angle the camera was at and keep a record of it. Ive spray painted a little around a stencil to mark on the ground where the camera base/mount goes, that way I can return every so often and take the next photo from the exact same place. Works well enough, doesn't line up perfectly every time, but close enough I guess.
This all works assuming I'm happy to have the camera flat on the ground, or on a stone or something. But unfortunately, for some shots I require it to sit higher. A tripod or pole of sorts would accomplish that but it then throws more angles into the mix, potentially making it harder to get the same exact position.
Any suggestions as to the type of mono/tripod? Or perhaps another piece of kit I haven't thought about? A monopod would be easier as I'm only working with one leg? Spirit levels to be sure I'm not leaning it? Simple base to stencil onto ground? Id certainly want to avoid these ball joints as id never be able to record the angles it would produce. If static in length, it would be good to be about 3-4 foot long so not too big to carry. If telescopic it would need to range 2-5 foot or there about but with easy ways to record what extension I used.
Does anything fit the bill? I'm sure there would be something invented with lengths and angles marked on it? Even better if it clicked into those angles to really be sure it was in position.
PS(Also, I feel a bit naughty spray painting where I'm taking my shots from, is there a standard trick for this? A pen would be more discreet but I'm worried it would wash away quicker)
Thanks in advance!
