New'ish 5D2. Keep 50D as well?

Not sure if anybody can help me with my dilemma!

I've just picked up a nice 5D2 and had every intention of selling my mint 50D to justify buying it. Now I'm thinking I should maybe keep them both.

I don't need the extra fps of the 50D but would like the extra length of the crop sensor occasionally.

Keep it. I had a D90 and hen bought a D3, I sold the D90 almost straight away and wished I hadn't. As a result I now have a D3 and a D300 :)
 
it's not a decision you have to make now, see how much use it gets in 6 months from now and make a decision from there. if you use it and can afford to keep it, keep it. if it sits on the shelf gathering dust, might as well give it a new home and buy some new lenses for that lovely 5D2 with the cash.
 
Keep it if you can afford to. I sold my 40d when I got my 5d2 and missed the crop factor for doing my birdie shots. I eventually replaced it with a mint 40d. That has now been replaced by a mint 1d3.

I believe there is a job for each body, with some overlap. When I go out to see the local deer I take the 1d3 purely for the crop. If like yesterday I go to somewhere like a boat museum I take the 5d2 for its extra punch.
 
Both cameras have their strengths and weaknesses so both have a place in your bag. Often it can be very convenient to have a pair of bodies - one set up for wide shots and the other for long, without forever swapping lenses and settings all the time. If one body goes tits up at least you have a spare and can carry on shooting. If you can afford it then keep both. :thumbs:
 
I started with a 50D and have bought a new 5Dii last year and have both and use both, often using the 50D with my 10-22mm lens and when I need it have the extra reach with the 70-200. I have been pondering trading the 70-200L is for the 70-300L is as I have tried that on the 50D and it was great. So if you don't need to sell keep it and know also you have one body you can use in situations in which you may be reluctant to use the
5D ie on the beach or near sea water or on a boat.

Um, the 1D III is only 1.3x crop though. Just done some rough calculations and the 5D II images can be cropped by 1.3x to make a 14MP image. So doesn't the 5D II actually get in closer than the 1D III?
