Already after owning my sony a200 for close to 4 months, im thinking of upgrading to the next step.

Ive been looking at something like an EOS 30D.

Should i maybe wait before taking the jump and get better with what i have or should i go for it?

Whilst I don't know a huge amount about Sony DSLR bodies, I would make the switch to Canon or Nikon purely for the vastly superior lens choice available to you. The 30D is a cracking body, and teamed with some decent glass should give you some excellent images.

gotta agree with that and that why when people ask me about cameras i always say nikon or canon as i feel sony are just as good but the lenses just arent as well catered for yet.

Upgrading to what stage exactly? Unless a new camera does something specific that your Sony doesn't, a new lens will do far more to expand your picture taking than a new body will, just for the sake of it. Sony lenses are very good.

If you want to go Canon, a 40D is perhaps a better bet ATM IMO. They are good value, having been superceded by the 50D, but don't forget the Nikon D90.

I'm not sure why people say Sony are restricted for lens choice. They might not have as many as Nikon/Canon, but how many do you need? Third party brands fit Sony too.

A700 is superior to a 30D & imo also to a 40D.

However, what do you find about the A200 is limiting you?
